The problem: LibertySoil is a platform that connects people around the world to make education better. The problem: a large idea has to fit into a small mark that works on a screen, a flyer and a profile picture.
The fix: We designed the logo and the brand identity in one to three weeks. The sheet below walks through the result.

Nonprofit Logo Design for an Education Platform
A logo for an education platform has to carry people, learning and the whole world without a sentence of explanation. That is a lot to ask of a mark that will often be shown at the size of a thumbnail.
What We Check in a Nonprofit Logo
We keep nonprofit marks simple, because they get printed small, shown on a phone and cut down to one color on a flyer. Before we hand a logo over we look at it at thumbnail size, in one color and on a dark background.
What We Cannot Show
This was a short project, and we do not have traffic or donation figures to share. The logo sheet below is the deliverable.
Tips From This Project
- Keep the mark simple enough to survive a thumbnail.
- Test the logo in one color before you approve it.
- Check it on a dark background as well as a light one.
- Keep the name readable next to the mark.
- Ask for the source files so the next designer can continue.
